Painted: Heresy-era Salamanders the 'Iron Dragon' Cassian Dracos

Greetings once again InterWebs!!!! It is Friday morning here and Mordian 7th and I are heading to the airport soon to catch a flight to GW's World of Battle in Memphis, TN. I thought I would show off my 3rd HQ choice for the event, here is my take on 'the Fallen Master, the Dragon Revenant, First Commander of the XVIII Legion': Cassian Dracos.........

His Banner which I am quite pleased with how it all turned out!

This was a very 'busy' model to paint with lots of surface details everywhere. I need to practice my flame painting a bit more, I would like to have the effect be more muted.....hmmm.

His base and if you look closely you can see a child's little dolly that he almost stepped on.

Cassian Dracos has special weapon arms which combine a powerfist and a special Salamanders flamer unit. I went with Puppetswar arms because I do not like the Forge World ones and I felt these ones looked more Heresy-era (older). The arms came with talons which I painted bone color to represent a Drake's Talons.  I also added a dragon headed flamer/melta nozzle which sits in the center of the powerfist.

He is a HQ choice and a very special character so I thought this was a decent way to add some more 'bling' to customized Dreadnought armor which happened to have been built by Vulkan himself!

Painted: Heresy-era Salamanders Contemptor Dreadnought

Greetings once again InterWebs!!! The day was spent putting the finishing touches on the Legion Glaive and packing everything up in my BattleFoam case for the trip to GW's World of Battle in Memphis, TN for a weekend of Horus Heresy gaming. I have not had a lot of time lately to actually take pictures of everything but I have managed to take a few pictures. I would like to present to you my attempt at a Legion Contemptor Dreadnought for Legio XVIII Salamanders:

I think the recovery of an abandoned project (from a friend.....Mordian 7th) turned out well. I can't wait to see what Forge World actually does for a Salamander Contemptor and I am sure I will have to get one or more! Painted: Heresy-era Salamanders Apothecary

Greetings once again InterWebs!!! More work was done in the hobby room, paint was applied everywhere it seems! The work on my Heresy-era Salamanders continues with an Apothecary. Once again he is in Mk IV armor like everyone else in my army; I wanted to keep it a theme and thanks to Forge World I am able to come close to having everything in Mk IV armor. My Apothecary is a fairly standard build with only the addition of an auspex (on his belt) and his drake scale cloak (which all of my 'characters' wear) to set him apart from the basic model.

Even the Apothecary has a fetish/trophy rope. I added these to help show the early stages of the Promethean Cult and to show the prowess of the Legionnaire.

I kept the cowl on his drake scale cloak intact because I liked the way it raised up behind his helmet:

The model is supposed to be stepping up on something it seems so I will make sure to have him stepping up on something when he gets based this weekend. I thought about using a cloth banner I have for him but the cloak and the backpack apparatus all seem to interfere with it.

Painted Heresy-era Salamanders: Librarian and Chapter Serf

Greetings once again InterWebs!!! It seems I am on fire with the updates recently! Well all I can say is that I have been painting a fair bit recently (every day for a bit since Xmas) and I thought I would share with you all. Paint....Paint.....Paint.....it is everywhere these days and all I can think about! I think my fingers are started to get a black-green tint to them. The recent push to get 3000 points painted by the 16th leads me to show you my Salamanders Librarian and his Chapter Serf Shield Bearer.

Inferno Pistol. I did not want to say it was in his holster, something as nasty as an inferno pistol should be modeled and shown to your opponent (in my opinion):

Banner pole topper which I am pleased with how it all turned out. I really like how it is looking out over the soon to be added banner.

I use red drake scale cloaks for the general troopers but I thought it would be a nice touch to have a different color for the characters; I went with a blue drake skin for the Librarian which also helps show that he different then the rest.

Force axe (missing some paint it seems.....doh!), Librarian shoulder pad, and fetish ropes!

The Librarian is also equipped with a Storm Shield but I really didn't want him holding it which left hanging on his back which was not going to happen (cloak and banner pole). I decided that I would go with a native of Nocturne (Chapter Serf) who happens to follow the Librarian unto the anvil. I will always laugh at the horror this little guy will get exposed to during his gaming career while following the Librarian.

Well, that was a nice enough little break from the painting. I am going to try and get some of this ink of my fingers before going back to the paint desk. I am getting closer by the day to having it all painted, now if the weather would warm up enough so I can seal these guys that would be awesome! Thanks for stopping by and taking a look! Take care!

Painted Heresy-era Salamanders: Tactical Support Squad

Greetings once again InterWebs!!!! Well the mad dash to get everything painted up is continuing along at a frantic pace and this morning I would like to present to you my Tactical Support Squad which are armed with meltaguns.

I used all sorts of bits and greenstuff to make my Salamanders look 'feral', they are from a deathworld after all. I also wanted to show that the Wolves of Fenris (which is not a deathworld if I remember correctly) are not the only ones who can look feral and still be awesome! Here are some closer looks at the Sergeant:

My Sergeants all have helmet crests but I wanted something a little different for his helmet:

He certainly has hunted down and killed his fair share of large reptiles! I can only imagine the rattle he makes with all the bone trophies:

I think the bionic arm is a nice subtle touch and works well with the darker heresy-era green armor:

Now for the other troopers is the squad. The squad is currently at 5-man but I am expand it to 10-man at some point in the future. I think I might have gone a little overboard with the fetish stuff on these guys but I like it, proves they are some heavy hitters:

The meltaguns came from SpellCrow and they are OK, I think they are a little big and bulky and actually required some shaving and cutting on the backside to get them to line up with the hand correctly. If and when I expand this unit to 10-men I will be making my own Salamander meltaguns.

Painted Heresy-era Salamanders: Tactical Squad #2
